Dodrick Oakenfist is a Dwarf of smaller than average stature, only being 3’9" and weighing 175 pounds. He is void of any body hair, wears no facial hair and shaves his head bald at regular intervals. His dark bronze tan is offset by his bushy eyebrows (his only hair) that are colored stark white as a symbol of his quest for purity. His outfit is comprised of only his loose flowing pants and soft leather shoes for ease of movement. On his forehead is a tattoo that reaches upwards to his scalp. This tattoo is one of many that can readily be seen on his body. It is the largest of three eyes that are tattooed on him. The eye on his forehead and scalp is tilted vertically and is inked all in a pale blue. The other two eyes are tattooed onto his palms. These also are vertically orientated with his left palm sporting a green eye and his right a red eye. The eyes combine to form The Trinity of Truth: blue for Truth of Spirit, green for Truth of Mind, and red for Truth of Body. A black serpent tattoo coils around his shoulder blades and down his arms to the back of his hands. The tail of the serpent is his left hand and the three eyed head of the beast is his right hand. When he holds his hands in meditation and battle the right hand encompasses the left and tattoo becomes a circular serpent eating its tail. This tattoo embodies the eternal nature of the Trinity of Truth and is a constant reminder of the fact that honesty can bite the owner. Beneath the image of the serpent coiling across his shoulder blades is a silver and gold tattoo of the Sword of Iomedae. Pointed downwards it reaches just to his belt line. Lastly, over his left breast is inked the crest of House Garess: a snow-capped mountain peak in gray set against a dark blue field. There is a silvery crescent moon in the upper right corner, and there is a black hammer across the base of the peak.
Dodrick Oakenfist is a Dwarf who was brought up by humans. Originally an orphan of the Golushkin Mountains, he was found as a small child in the burnt out husk of a trader’s caravan, a casuality of the constant banditry of the area. The human who found him was a messenger for a minor family of nearby House Garess. The human, Beldrick, named the orphaned Dwarf Dodrick after his family tradition. He raised him as his own for three years before the Lord of the family took notice and adopted him as a younger companion to his own son, Roldran. Dodrick honored his new family while remaining true to the man who saved him and had raised him. He became an inseparable friend and brother to Roldran. When both were in the twenties they met a female elf monk who was traveling south through the lands after having spent many years as a law enforcer in Brevoy. Dodrick would not know it at the time but this meeting would greatly alter his life path later. He forever regrets not learning that particular monk’s name. Later, after both his adopted fathers had passed and Dodrick and Roldran were in their forties, Roldran was mercilessly slain by bandits. Thus all of his dearest friends and companions have been killed and he holds a personal vendetta against all breakers of the law. Immediately after learning the news of his adopted brother’s death, he set out south searching for answers to the cruel reality of the world. He wandered for a year before coming across another monk. This time he learned his name, Abram Twin-Oaks, and trained under Master Twin-Oaks for nine years. Learning the way of the Trinity of Truth and becoming a follower of Iomedae in the pursuit of order, innocence and purity. After these ten years he has returned home at the age of 53 to bring order to the River Kingdoms. He has given himself the surname Oakenfist in honor of Master Twin-Oaks. He has taken a Vow of Truth and will always tell the truth and be honest when asked directly a question. He realizes that his companions will not always be truthful and he allows for this but will intercede if he feels that the dishonesty is particularly shameful or harmful to the general order.
